High-Impact Practice Opportunity (HIPO) Fund

The Department of Communication is committed to providing transformative experiences for our 900+ students. This fund is intended to provide one-time financial assistance to COMM B.A. and M.A. students participating in one of the following high-impact practice activities:

    •  Research experiences including

(a) presenting at regional, national, and international conferences*,

(b) participation incentives for recruitment purposes, and

(c) travel to archives or funds essential to completing research. Funds may assist with travel expenses, registration fees, or purchasing of University-approved gift cards for participants.

    • Summer Internships

Funds may assist with tuition and fees associated with COMM 49103/59103 credit and/or travel and living expenses for out-of-state internships.

    • Study Abroad

Funds may assist with tuition and fees associated with courses and/or travel and living expenses associated with the study abroad experience.

 

Eligibility: The High-Impact Practice Opportunity (HIPO) Fund is restricted to declared COMM B.A. and M.A. students (not students from other departments or graduate programs).

Full-time COMM B.A. and M.A. students are eligible for funding if:

· The student is the first or sole author of a paper accepted for presentation.

· The student is the first or sole author of a research project requiring travel for archival work or compensation for participants.

· The student is enrolled in COMM 49103/59103 for the upcoming summer term.

· The student is enrolled in COMM 499HV/6000V for the current or upcoming term.

· The student is enrolled in study abroad courses for the upcoming term.

 

Application Due Dates: For requests to be fully considered, students should apply before October 15 in the fall semester and before March 15 in the spring semester.
